One of the most powerful storms ever recorded, Typhoon Haiyan, devastated the Philippine islands.
Global efforts are underway to help. Tens of thousands of casualties are expected as rescuers gain access to the affected areas. thousands more are displaced and now homeless. In addition to the overwhelming loss of family and friends, the survivors are without basic necessities.
How can we help?
First, pray! Hold the Philippine people and their leaders in your constant prayer. Please also pray for the rescue operations that are underway.
Second, give financially. We recommend the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance fund. The fund is responsible and gives to credible providers and first-responders on the ground.
Third, prepare Gifts of the Heart. Hygiene kits, Clean-up kits, and Baby kits are desperately needed! Church World Services is sending cartons and cartons of these kits to the victims! Let’s add to their warehouse.
UPDATE! If preparing Hygiene Kits, do not add bars of soap. Our school partner, Mountain View High School, is collecting lots of bars of soap for the kits!
Gifts of the Heart kits offer hope through the simple gifts of huge physical needs. Sending soap, toothbrushes, cloth diapers, and cleansers are tangible ways to be involved. These kits are the best way to get the supplies to the Philippines victims.
CPC will be collecting Gifts of the Heart kits through Sunday, December 8.
We will drive them to the Maryland warehouse for distribution overseas. If you miss our deadline, no worries!! You can either mail or drive your kits to Church World Services in Maryland.
