This summer we hope to make new progress with our plastic bag mats for the homeless.
Last fall and winter, many of our church family helped as we collected thousands of plastic grocery story bags. We are grateful for everyone who then took the bags and created rolls of plarn. A number of us then gathered up the plarn and crocheted the 3′ x 6′ mats.
The need for mats remains high! CPC member, Carol Wallace, coordinates our ongoing plarn project. When she delivers new mats to the Lamb Center, many guests line up to receive one. We would love to provide more mats.
“It’s important to know,” Carol notes, “that this is the season when folks struggling with homelessness truly need the mats. The mats provide a dry cushion from the otherwise damp and hard ground. The temporary hypothermia shelters are all closed. We can help people as they continue in their journey to health and healing.”
Because completing an entire mat is a big undertaking, we want to work together to continue in our commitment for this project.
Let’s meet to make plarn, work on a mat, start a mat, and encourage the mat-making! Carol is welcoming us to her home on Wednesday, July 22 (7-8:30 p.m.). Email Carol Wallace (carol.k.wallace
