“30 AD – The Jesus Story” – The Sermon Series & Growth Group Topic
His influence upon people and even nations has been unrivaled by any other person in history. He continues to have an impact on the world even though he lived over two millennia ago. As one writer put it; “Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself…”[1]
His name is Jesus the Christ. His story is well known and yet controversial. During the months of February and March we will be doing an eight week study of the book of Luke entitled, “30 AD – The Jesus Story”. During this series, we will explore the reliability of this record of Jesus and his ministry. Does it include actual eyewitness accounts of what Jesus said and did? From this carefully investigated account, we will see how Jesus’ life was politically incorrect and ran against the grain of the religion of his day. In addition we will discover some of the surprising requirements for those who want to follow him.
The series will conclude with the account of his notorious death and his controversial resurrection. Join us for a life changing encounter with the Jesus of the first century who speaks to us centuries later.
