Legacy of Faith, Monday, September 26, 2011

The foundation of faith remains central to one’s identity. Parents play a critical role in laying the groundwork of developing life-long followers of Christ. Research findings also report that children with a solid faith and supportive church community succeed better emotionally, socially, and academically. This seminar will equip parents to discuss matters of faith with their children, to connect the spiritual dots from church to home, and to create memorable faith milestones.

April 11, 2011   “Dating and Relationships”

In time for Spring romances, this seminar helped parents better understand how their sons and daughters develop cognitively focusing on relationships and their sexuality.   We welcomed Dr. Larry Kennedy, marriage and family therapist with years of experience and wisdom, to update and challenge us. A new and growing body of research sheds light on teenagers grasp (and lack thereof) of their own decision-making, body image, and love!

January 24, 2011  “ScreamFree Parenting”

ScreamFree Parenting has inspired parents everywhere to truly revolutionize their families. Moving beyond many of the child-centered, technique-based approaches, the ScreamFree way compels you to focus on yourself and calm yourself down. By staying both calm and connected with your kids, you begin to operate less out of fear and more out of your values, becoming a leader in your family and improving your relationships. Workshop leader, Myra Bridgforth, brought years of counseling experience to this life-changing seminar.

Many thanks to our speaker Myra Binns Bridgforth. Myra is a marriage and family therapist who practices in Vienna, Virginia. If you are seeking counseling and advice, she can be reached by phone (703-281-4703), email (myraLPC@verizon.net), or address (513 Maple Avenue West, Vienna, VA 22190). September 27, 2010  “Snapshot of Fairfax Youth: How Church Can Make A Difference”

Why come to church? National and local research find churches play a significant role in developing teenagers’ emotional health along with the obvious spiritual growth. The seminar focused on the benefits of community and church involvement, according the results found in the Fairfax County Youth Survey covering substance abuse, mental health, and sexual behavior. Shifting from fixing teens problems to promoting their strengths through leadership, missions, and service creates rich soil for adolescents’ growth.  If you missed this seminar, check out the following websites for the content information.
