Summer is nearly upon us. As the season changes, new routines open new opportunities. Would you be able to join us as we serve partners locally and around world?
June offers numerous opportunities for us to be active with our ministry partners. The needs are abundant. Would you pray about joining us?
Poverty and Hunger
Breakfast at the Lamb Center (Saturday, June 4). Up to six people can sign up to help serve breakfast. If you cannot join us, we also need food donated (apples, oranges, casseroles, yogurts, and hard boiled eggs).
Lunch at the Lamb Center (Tuesday, June 21). We bring eight pot roasts to the Lamb Center each month. The recipe is super easy (really)! Sign-up to bring the casserole to CPC by Monday evening and we’ll bake them all on Tuesday.
Habitat for Humanity. Our Prince William partner has numerous opportunities to come alongside individuals and families in our community. Their volunteer calendar makes finding the best times to serve easy! Nedds include serving in the ReStore as well as doing light construction (instruction provided).
Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Final days of our Spring Food Drive are upon us! Bring donations to CPC by May 31! Our local food pantry is also seeking volunteers for Fridays at the pantry and also on Mondays/Thursdays to pick up morning donations at Costco. Follow the link to sign up to help.
God’s Garden. Despite ALL the rain, we are moving forward with our garden. We have a couple more beds to layer with soil/newspaper/compost/grass clippings. Come any time! We’d love your help.
Jobs for Life. We will host a pilot class to come alongside people who are unemployed and underemployed to help them break out of the cycle of poverty. We are gathering a team to host the pilot 8-week course in Fall 2016. It will be challenging and a new adventure!
Plarn. What’s “plarn”? It’s plastic yarn! And, we need lots. 🙂 We are making plarn mats for the guests at the Lamb Center. Would you be able to make plastic yarn? Would you be able to crochet the plarn? The pattern is easy. It’s a bit time-consuming, yes, but the recipients are deeply grateful!
Families and Children
London Towne Elementary School (LTES). Every Wednesday at CPC (11:30am – 12:30pm) we assemble food into bags for local impoverished children. All are welcome! We deliver on Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings. Email Sharon (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are available to help deliver.
London Towne Elementary School Mentoring/Tutoring. Every Tuesday morning (7:45-8:45am) we tutor children in 2nd grade math. Our year with the children is winding down but if you may be interested in serving with us next year and would like to see what is involved, we’d love to have you join us in these final weeks.
Summer Reading for LTES Children. We are collecting books for children at London Towne Elementary School. The Reading Specialists have created a special program for children reading below grade level and are in need of books. Click through the link to find the list of needed books. Save July 22 (8:15-11:00am) if you would like to read with the children
Recycling Non-recyclables. Help us care for the planet that the Lord has given us. We are committed to recycling items that would otherwise fill the landfills and clutter our planet. Your office, school, and family can join in the collection!
Gifts of the Heart. Needs exist around our planet to care for displaced people. Victims of earthquakes and famine along with refugees are in desperate need of assistance. Gather family and friends together to make hygiene kits, clean-up buckets, or school supply kits. You will be impacting people far and wide. Bring the kits to CPC and we will deliver them to the regional distribution center.
Thank you for connecting with our ministry partners. Whether local or global, crisis oriented or sustainable outreach, our outreach connects with the needs of people. Won’t you join us? If you would like to chat further about ways to match your gifts and talents with the needs of others please contact our Director of Missions Sharon Hoover (sharon @centrevillepres.com).
